چکیده

We study the class C of symmetric functions whose coefficients in the Schur basis can be described by generating functions for sets of tableaux with fixed shape. Included in this class are the Hall-Littlewood polynomials, k-Schur functions, and Stanley symmetric functions; functions whose Schur coefficients encode combinatorial, representation theoretic and geometric information. While Schur functions represent the cohomology of the Grassmannian variety of GLn, Grothendieck functions {Gλ} represent the K-theory of the same space. In this paper, we give a combinatorial description of the coefficients when any element of C is expanded in the G-basis or the basis dual to {Gλ}.

K-Theoretic Demazure Atoms and Skyline Diagrams

Demazure characters (also known as key polynomials) and Demazure atoms (called standard bases by Lascoux and Schutzenberger) have been extensively studied [1, 2]. A combinatorial formula with fillings of skyline diagrams is given by Mason in [3]. We first review the definitions and combinatorial descriptions of these polynomials and give their K-theoretic counterparts. We recall the following o...

Properties of Expansions in Complex Bases

Abstract. Expansions in noninteger positive bases have been intensively investigated since the pioneering works of Rényi (1957) and Parry (1960). The discovery of surprising unique expansions in certain noninteger bases by Erdős, Horváth and Joó (1991) was followed by many studies aiming to clarify the topological and combinatorial nature of the sets of these bases. In the present work we exten...

Combinatorial Bases, Derived Jordan Sets and the Equality of the Height and Level Characteristics of an M-Matrix

We continue our series of papers on the graph theoretic spectral theory of matrices. Let A be an Mmatrix. We introduce the concepts of combinatorial vectors and proper combinatorial vectors in the generalized nuUspacc E(A) of A. \\e explore the properties of combinatorial bases for E(A) and Jordan bases for E(A) derived from proper combinatorial sets of vectors. We use properties of these bases...

Combinatorial Information Theory: I. Philosophical Basis of Cross-Entropy and Entropy

This study critically analyses the information-theoretic, axiomatic and combinatorial philosophical bases of the entropy and cross-entropy concepts. The combinatorial basis is shown to be the most fundamental (most primitive) of these three bases, since it gives (i) a derivation for the Kullback-Leibler cross-entropy and Shannon entropy functions, as simplified forms of the multinomial distribu...
